The Enciclopedia universal ilustrada europeo-americana is an encyclopedia from Spain. It is often called Espasa after the editor.

It was initially composed of 70 volumes in 72 books (the volumes 18 and 28 were published in the form of two volumes) and appeared between 1908 and 1930. Ten supplementary volumes were published between 1930 and 1933, 33 further volumes between 1935 and 2003 And an index, an appendix and an atlas, so that a total of 118 books were available.

In 2003 the Enciclopedia was reissued in 90 volumes. This edition consisted of the original 82 books and an eight-volume "Complemento Enciclopédico 1934-2002", which offers new knowledge in alphabetical order. With its 90 volumes and more than 900,000 articles or more than 200 million words, the Enciclopédia universal has been the most extensive encyclopedia in the world for a long time.

Since December 2005, the English-language Wikipedia contains more words than the Spanish Enciclopedia universal.
