Carmen (1814)


Balandra Carmen was a ship that provided transport services in the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata during the war of independence.

History

The Carmen was a merchant of registration of Buenos Aires property of Guillermo Pío White, one of the main managers of the formation of the Argentine squadron that in the Naval Campaign of 1814 to the control of Guillermo Brown obtained the dominion of the River of the Plata and assured the fall of the realistic place of Montevideo in June. After occupying the city, the necessity of sending urgent military reinforcements both in character of replacements and in view of the probable offensive of the forces of Gervasio Artigas caused that the Carmen was embargoed the 30 of June of 1814. After transferring troops to Montevideo, returned to Buenos Aires conducting Spanish prisoners of war.

In the last recorded operation, he then integrated a convoy of five units of similar characteristics escorted by two warlocks and a schooner. Bibliography
