Bramarbas

"Bramarbas" is the German title of the Danish comedy Jakob von Tyboe by the writer Ludvig Holberg.

Returning to the expression "bramarbase" for "specify, large". The translation and the title are by Johann Christoph Gottsched, who published it in 1741 in his Deutsche Schaubühne. The origin of the word is not known, possibly it is related to the Spanish "bramar", which means "roar, rage". In today's common sense "bramarbasieren" appeared in Christian Fürchtegott Gellert's letters for the first time in 1751.
