Renate Schmidgall

Schmidgall studied Slavic Studies and German Studies in Heidelberg. From 1984 to 1990 she worked as a librarian at the German Polish Institute in Darmstadt, from 1990 to 1996 as a research assistant. Since then she has been a freelance translator for Polish literature. The most famous authors she has translated are: Stefan Chwin, Witold Gombrowicz, Paweł Huelle, Mirosław Nahacz, Maciej Niemiec, Andrzej Stasiuk, Wisława Szymborska and Adam Zagajewski.
