Potočari, 11 de Juli 2007.

Potočari is a town in the Republika Srpska, municipality of Srebrenica, in the eastern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 6 km northwest of the city of Srebrenica. According to the census, in 1991 there were 4,338 inhabitants, of whom 93% were Bosnians and 7% others, mainly Serbs. Period of war

During the Bosnian war, the village was in the so-called "safe area" of Srebrenica, where the base of the blue helmets was sent by the UN to protect it. Like other places in the enclave its population increased, since it hosted refugees from neighboring areas of Bosnia. When the Serbian forces invaded the enclave in July 1995 the Srebrenica massacre was carried out. Postwar period

The Memorial of the Srebrenica genocide and cemetery are located here. The largest donation for the funding of the monument and cemetery was made by the United States government, and the monument was inaugurated by former President Bill Clinton in 2003. During the commemoration of the 10th anniversary, another 619 victims were buried. There are currently over 2,000 people buried here. As more bodies of the 8200 victims of the massacre are exhumed from common and identified graves, they are likely to be buried here.
