Mythimna impura


Mythimna impure is a moth in the Noctuidae family. It is distributed throughout Europe.

As with other "sockets", its anterior wings of yellow with prominent venation. The smoked frieze has a dark basal stripe with another shorter streak near the coast and tornus. This species has gray posterior wings with white margins. The wingspan is 31 to 38 mm. One or two pups are produced each year and adults can be seen anytime between June and October. It flies at night and is attracted to light, sugar and various flowers.

The larva is brown with dark and black lines and feeds on various herbs including Alopecurus, Dactylis, Deschampsia, Leymus and Phragmites and has also been recorded in the reeds, Carex and Rush, Luzula. This species spends the winter in a small larva.
