Climent Garau Arbona


Climent Garau Arbona (Palma de Mallorca, 1924-Palma de Mallorca, 2015) was a Majorcan pharmacist and politician.

He was president of the Balearic Obra Cultural from 1970 to 1976. In 1975 he founded the National Mallorcan Alliance (ANAM) and, the following year, the Autonomist and Socialist Group of les Illes.

Later he joined the Mallorquí Nationalist Party and the Autonomist Union of the Balearic Islands, from which he was a candidate for the general elections of 1977. Finally, he joined the Socialist Party of Mallorca, for which he also presented himself to the general elections of the year 1982. In neither of the two occasions it was chosen.

In 1985 he founded the Grup Blanquerna, an entity dedicated to the study of the cultural and national reality of Mallorca.

He received the Ramon Llull Prize from the Balearic Government in 2000 "in recognition of all his actions in defense of the identity signs of the Islands" and the Cross of San Jorge of the Generalitat of Catalonia in 2003 in merit to "his trajectory as a of nationalism in the Balearic Islands. "
