Vendimiario (in French Vendémiaire) is the name of the first month of the French republican calendar, the first also of the autumn season. It begins on the day of the autumn equinox, which according to the year falls on 22.23 or 24 September, and ends on 21.22 or 23 October. It coincides approximately with the apparent passage of the Sun by the zodiacal constellation of Libra. Etymology

The name of the month comes from the French vendange, which means vintage. According to the report to the Convention proposed by Fabre d'Églantine, that name refers to "the harvests that take place in September and October". The suffix -ario denotes that the month belongs to the fall season, just like Brumario and Frimario. Historical review
