Murasoli Maran (Tamil: முரசொலி மாறன் Tamil: முரசொலி மாறன்) (17 August 1934 - 23 November 2003) was an important leader of India's leading Tamil politician and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), whose president was his uncle and mentor M. Karunanidhi Are there. He has been a Member of Parliament for 36 years. He has been elected as the Union Minister, VP, in three separate central governments. early life

Born on August 16, 1934, Murasoli Maran was the son of Shanmuga Sundaram. He was born in Thirukkuvalai village Thiruvarur-Tamilnadu in Paniarselvam. After completing his basic education in his home city, he proceeded to Madras to acquire a postgraduate (MA) degree in art from the panchayappa college and law college, Madras. Prior to joining politics, Shri Maran worked as a journalist and later served as a social worker. Since the time of his student life in Madras, he has been working as a D.M.K. (DMK) was closely connected with it. On September 15, 1963, he married Mallika and had two sons and a daughter. His younger son Dayanidhi Maran (Union Minister) and his eldest son Kalanidhi Maran are the heads and owners of the popular TV network Sun TV.

He was an anti-Hindi protestator in Tamil Nadu and for this he was arrested in 1965 for his articles during anti-Hindi agitations. During the Emergency, he was kept in custody for a year under the observance of the Internal Security Act. Career as a journalist

Murasoli Maran gave script and dialogues for more than twenty films in Tamil. He has produced five films in Tamil and has directed two films.

Sangeet Natak Akademi gave him the title of Kala-Mamani in 1975. He was awarded the President's Medal Certificate and the Tamil Nadu Government Award for three best feature films. Major contribution in Doha

A major contribution of Maran was to organize all developing countries as a front in order to stand against the implementation of WTO rules by the G7 countries in the Doha Round of the WTO. The rules of these WTO (World Trade Organization) rules were to benefit the developed countries and make the developing countries poor. Maran successfully and forcefully built a joint front of developing countries and successfully prevented G7 from applying any condition. Murasoli Maran passed away on November 23, 2003 at Apollo Hospital in Chennai. He was in a state of deep unconsciousness (coma) for several weeks. Prior to treatment at Apollo Hospital, on November 14, 2002, he was admitted to Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas for heart related illness (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy = HTCM = HCM) and kidney related problems. At the time of his death, he was the cabinet minister of the department without the Indian government. Prime Minister Vajpayee and a group of leaders participated in their funeral in Chennai. Jayalalitha asked her cabinet ministers not to be included. State's Public Secretary T. Pachchandi was the only person to appear in the funeral as a representative from the Tamil Nadu government.
