Eduard Schmidt (politician)


Eduard Schmidt (* 4 October 1887 in Prinzlaff; † 23rd August 1955 in Stralsund) was a German politician (SPD). He belonged to the Gdansk People's Day from 1920 to 1938.

Schmidt was born as the son of a worker. After attending the Volksschule, he worked as a shipyard without a professional qualification, until he was drafted into the war in 1914. He was a soldier until 1918, and was caught in Russian warfare. In 1919 he joined the USPD and was elected for this in the Gdansk People's Day. From April to December 1920 he was party secretary of the USPD in Gdansk, and from 1919 to 1923 he was a town councilor in Gdańsk. In January 1921 he joined the KPD and in June 1923 the SPD.
