Canal de Castañón


The Castañón canal is a civil engineering project that was inaugurated in 1969. This canal runs 20.2 kilometers in the entire province of León, allowing the irrigation of 3,710 hectares of fresh water from the Barrios de Luna reservoir. The main use of water is agriculture. Its name is due to the illustrious family Castañon de Gordon, Villapadierna and Lois. It was inaugurated by the Generalissimo and by the Castañon family. Amongst those that appeared: G. Castañon de Mena, Sara Álvarez de Miranda, and Esteban Castañon de Arias and Lara. Grandfather of the current guardian and owner of the historic legacy of the Tusinos. Technical Data
