Edit HistoryQual

The Spandau Yacht Club was founded on August 2, 1885, as a sailing club "Tegel-See" on the Valentinswerder in Tegeler See. Three years after the founding, he was a founding member of the German Sailing Association. In order to escape the danger of being cut off from the Havel by bridge building in Spandau, on 7th October 1913, today's club grounds were acquired at the Scharfen Lanke in Wilhelmsstadt and the association moved from Lake Tegel to the Unterhavel new name until today. After a merger with the "Märkische Yacht-Club" on June 9, 1938, the club name was changed to the name Spandauer Yacht-Club, which is still valid today.

Numerous successes have been achieved in the history of the Spandau Yacht Club. As early as 1938, Jochen Weise, winner of the gold medal in 1936, won the World Cup in the Starboot in front of San Diego with W. von Hütschler.

The Schlimbach Prize, which was awarded to outstanding sailors in recognition of outstanding achievements, was awarded to two members of the Spandau Yacht Club. In 1973, Götz Jacky Schreiber was the first German sailor to win the Schlimbach Prize for the circumnavigation of Cape Horn. Ten years later, Harm-Hinrich Rotermund received the Schlimbach Prize in 1983 for his round-the-world trip around the Magellan Strait.

Again and again, members of the Spandau Yacht Club participated in Olympic Games. The first Olympics took place in 1936 by Jochen Weise. In 1988 and 1996 the two-time world champion in the 470s, Susanne Bauckholt, took part in the Olympic Games. The last Olympics took place in 2004 by Lucas Zellmer and in 2008 by Vivien Kussatz.

The Spandau Yacht Club is one of the larger sailing clubs in Berlin and currently has around 350 members. He organizes several Berlin regattas every year, including several German and Berlin Championships. Edit source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext
