Robles (Jamundí)


The town of Robles is located in the south west of the department of Valle del Cauca, in the flat area south of the municipality of Jamundí, at a distance of 65 km by paved road from Cali and 23 km from the head of the municipality of Jamundí. The total extension of the corregimiento is of 1,460.49 hectares. of which approximately 18 are urban and 1,442.49 rural. The urban area is divided into 5 neighborhoods and the rural area in 3 lanes (Laguna Seca with 139.3 ha, El Progreso with 80.4 ha and Tinajas with 671.3). The total extension of the corregimiento is of 18.50km2. (Data from DAP 1998).

Robles is bordered on the north by the district of Guachinde, on the south by the district of Chagres, on the west by the corregimiento of Timba and on the east by the district of Quinamayó. History

Formerly this district was called Yarumal, but in honor of the first black senator in Colombia, the Honorable Luis Antonio Robles, the initial name was changed to "Robles". Already in 1990 the first grassroots organizations began to form in Robles. The first was FUNECOROBLES which was born as a committee to support the recovery of natural resources and is now one of the most important grassroots organizations in the community.
