Moroccan Combatant Islamic Group

The Moroccan Islamic Combatant Group (GICM), the Islamic Combatant Group or the Moroccan Combatant Group is a Sunni Islamist and jihadist terrorist organization affiliated with the Al Qaeda network.

The GICM is one of several armed groups in North Africa that formed in Afghanistan during the Taliban government. Together with other groups linked to Al Qaeda, the GICM was considered as part of international terrorism by United Nations Security Council Resolution 1267 shortly after the September 11, 2001 attacks.

The GICM aims to establish a fundamentalist Islamic regime in Morocco, but has members throughout Western Europe and Canada. In May 2003, 45 people were killed in a bombing in Casablanca, including 12 suicide bombers. In the attacks of March 11, 2004 in Madrid, they killed 191 people and wounded more than 1900., possibly along with other Islamist cells.
