A total of 15 books with no numbering appeared between 1951 and 1981.

The books were not distributed through the magazine trade and deliberately delineated themselves from the "Schaheheften". From the publisher (Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger), the series was advertised as follows: "Recognized writers describe in our series of catastrophes at sea, excellent rescue services according to original reports exciting and in accordance with the facts." All the books were checked in advance by the Jugendschriften committees recommended.

One of the "recognized writers" was also the Landser author and former Nazi writer Fritz-Otto Busch. This also wrote for the booklet series SOS - destinies of German ships and anchor booklets. Sea navigation all over the world - of which this series deliberately delimited. Hans Berber-Credner, on the other hand, has only appeared as an author of a memorandum on the history and work of the DGzRS outside this series.

In part, the books were illustrated with drawings, but often with photos. Chapter headings divide the booklets, similar to books.

There are, in 1963, 1975 and around 1980, reprints with modified covers and slightly revised texts. Published booklets Edit source text Edit sourcetext Norbert Hethke, Peter Skodzik: General German novel catalog. Bethke, 2007. Weblinks Edit sourcetext
