Amazonas 1
For the Peruvian-Emirate ferry, see Amazonas I.
Amazonas 1 is a communications satellite of Hispasat. It was put into orbit on 5 August 2004. With a mass of 4.5 tonnes, the Amazonas 1 satellite, based on Astrium's three-axis stabilized Eurostar 3000s platform, is equipped with a total of 63 equivalent transponders, which 36 operate in Ku band and 27 in band C.
It is one of the largest satellites with the highest number of transponders in Ibero-America.
The Amazonas 1 satellite is notable for its ability to offer both C-band and Ku-band communications services within and outside Brazil. In Latin America the Ku band is currently limited to the provision of television distribution and distribution (DTH) services. Its use in business services and broadband is a major qualitative and technological leap in the continent's satellite communications.
Amazonas 1 also incorporates the latest technological advances, proven in flight, in the area of antennas, repeaters and platform. In 2013 it was replaced by Amazonas 3 due to faults in its batteries but will be re-positioned in the 36 W orbit.
Finally the satellite has moved to the orbit cemetery and deactivated on June 23, 2017 Coverage
