Amadeo Cros

Amadeo Cros Nubiola (1832-Barcelona, May 24, 1916) was a Spanish entrepreneur of French descent. His grandfather, Francisco Cros, was an entrepreneur who had introduced the method of the lead chamber into the production of sulfuric acid. The family arrived in Catalonia in 1817. The company was inherited by his father, Juan Francisco Cros and finally passed into the hands of Amadeo, who continued with the work denominating J.T. Cros, but in 1866 called it by its own name.

In 1873 he moved his company from the Barcelona district of Sants to Badalona. The company would stop producing chemicals for the industry and would produce fertilizers such as lime, chlorides, nitrates, phosphates, and other superphosphates. From there, the company expanded to the rest of Spain. In 1904 the company had grown so much that it happens to be Sociedad Anónima, with Amadeo as a prominent shareholder and chairman of the board of directors. The company also edited the magazine The chemical fertilizers that it distributed gratuitously among the farmers.

According to popular sources in the area Amadeo Cros died without descendants, leaving all his estate legacy to the municipality of Badalona, with the condition of allocating it to social uses.
