Josep Maria Roofs


Josep Maria Sostres Maluquer (Seo de Urgel, 1915 - Barcelona, ​​1984) was a Spanish architect. Biography

He studied architecture at the University of Barcelona where he graduated in 1946. He specialized in the construction of single-family homes. His first constructions realized them in Bellver of Cerdagne and in the Seo of Urgel. In 1949, Sostres participated in the winning team of the contest on Economic housing in Barcelona. In 1951 he was one of the initiators of the well-known Group R, association of architects of which they were part among others Oriol Bohigas and Antoni de Moragas.

He made several outstanding projects such as the Agustí house in Sitges, which was demolished in 1975, the houses M.M.I. in Barcelona or the building of the headquarters of the newspaper El Noticiero Universal in the Barcelona extension where his work recovered the contemporary style that had been interrupted by the Spanish Civil War. He was professor at the ETSAB, and director of the Royal Gaudí Chair (1959-1968).
