Aigustė Anastasia of Lithuania

Aigustė Anastasia of Lithuania, (russian Анастасия Гедиминовна) (* between 1316 and 1321, † 11 March 1345) was a Grand-Princess of Moscow. She was probably the daughter of Gediminas, the great prince of Lithuania, and the first wife of Simeon of Moscow. It was not fully proved that she was a daughter of Gediminas, but because of the great importance of her marriage to Simeon and Gediminas 'planned marriage policy, most historians concluded that she must have been a member of Gediminas' dynasty.

In November or December 1333, Aigustė was named Anastasia to marry Simeon. In 1341 he became Grand Duke of Moscow. This marriage had great political potential, as Lithuania and Moscow were rivals for Ruthenia at that time, but the conflict broke out two years after the marriage.

Both her sons Vasili and Constantine died in childhood. In 1350, her daughter Vasilissa married Mikhail Vasilyevitch of Kashin, a prince of Twer, who was hostile to Lithuania. Her brother Jaunutis asked for help when he was overthrown by Algirdas in 1345. Shortly before her death on March 11, 1345, Aigustė became a nun. She was buried in a monastery church within the Moscow Kremlin, whose construction she had financed herself. Single-level Edit source text
