Red Pavilion
Red Ensign is the common denomination that receives the civil pavilion of the United Kingdom.
It is a red flag, of proportions 1: 2, with the Union Jack in the canton. History
In 1674, King Charles II officially confirmed that the red flag was the correct flag to be used by English merchant ships. His proclamation made official the use that was already being given by the merchant fleet. Red Pavilion used in the seventeenth century and up to 1707. Red flag used by the Scottish navy prior to its inclusion in the British Royal Navy. Red Pavilion between 1707 and 1801
It was also the flag used by the Red Squadron of the Royal Navy, until in 1864 the White Pavilion was introduced as a flag of war or specific flag of the Navy.
Originally the Red Pavilion consisted of a red cloth with the flag of England in the canton. The Scottish navy used it with the flag of Scotland in the canton.
In 1707, following the signing of the Act of Union, the United Kingdom flag replaced that of England in the canton, and in 1801, approved the new Act of Union, the Red Flag incorporated the new flag of the United Kingdom to the canton and thus it stays until our days.
