Palafoxiana Library
Palafoxiana Library (2011)
The Biblioteca Palafoxiana is a library in the Central Mexican city of Heroica Puebla de Zaragoza. It was built in 1646 on the initiative of the Spanish Bishop and Viceroy of New Spain Juan de Palafox y Mendoza. It is thus the first public library in colonial Mexico and is occasionally also called the oldest library of the American double continent. In 1673 a new building was completed. The earthquakes of 1999 damaged the library, leading to restoration work. In 2005 it was incorporated into the world documentary heritage by UNESCO.
The stock comprises 41,000 media, including nine incunabula. Weblinks Edit sourcetext Commons: Biblioteca Palafoxiana - collection of pictures, videos and audio files
