Juan Manuel Salas (August 1, 1914 - San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca, March 16, 1991) was an Argentine politician, who held the position of Governor of Catamarca between 1958 and 1962, when he was dismissed by federal intervention. Biography
He was born in the family farm Quimilpa, in the town of Los Altos. He was the son of Mercedes Ormaeche and Juan Manuel Salas Gómez. He completed his secondary studies at the Colegio Nacional de Catamarca.
He was National Deputy for the province of Catamarca. He joined the Intransigente Radical Civic Union, supporting the presidency of Arturo Frondizi. His election as Governor by the UCRI, as well as that of the governor of Tucumán, Celestino Gelsi, and the one of Frondizi at national level, allowed to resolve a conflict around the Farallón Negro deposit between both provinces, creating the company Yacimientos Miners Water of Dionysus. Among the public works during his administration as governor are the equipment to the provincial direction of road and paving of routes in the interior of the province, along with the start of construction of the Las Pirquitas Dam. The Quebrada and Jas Juntas dams were projected, projects finally abandoned by their predecessors after their overthrow.
After his death his remains were buried in the family pantheon of Quimilpa. In 2007, her body, along with that of her parents and sister, were stolen.
