Joaquín Araújo Ruano


Joaquín Araújo Ruano (* 1851 in Ciudad Real, † 1894 in Madrid) was a Spanish painter, graphic artist and book illustrator.

He studied in Madrid at the Higher School of Painting and Sculpture (Escuela Superior de Pintura y Escultura) at Ignacio Suárez Llanos. In 1872 he traveled to París, where he became a pupil of Léon Bonnat, and then worked at the Spanish Academy in Rome (Academia de España en Roma). He became friends with Giovanni Boldini and James Whistler, became an associate of the English magazine The Graphic, and numerous Spanish periodicals, especially devoted to bullfighting.
