Congolese Rite

The Congolese rite is the last Latin rite approved by the Holy See on April 30, 1988, through the Zairensium Regionum decree of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.

Since 1972, the inculturated liturgy (known then as a Zairian rite) will be experienced in Kinshasa and most dioceses since 1977.

In this rite, the participation of the people is expressed mainly through dance; another peculiarity is the invocation of saints and ancestors; in addition, each reader receives a blessing from the priest before going to read.
