Anna Mayr

Anna Maxwell Martin (born May 10, 1977 in Beverley, England) is a British actress. She was known for her roles as Esther Summerson in the BBC adaptation of Charles Dickens classic Bleak House (2005) and as Bessy Higgins in North & South (2004) after Elizabeth Gaskell's novel of the same name.

She first studied history (with a focus on the First World War) at Liverpool University. After her graduation Maxwell Martin began her acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).

She was nominated for her role in His Dark Materials for the prestigious British Theater Prize Olivier Award. For the role of Esther Summerson in Bleak House, Maxwell Martin was awarded BAFTA as Best Actress in 2006. She was also nominated for the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards in 2006 for her role in Bleak House.

As of mid-July 2008, Maxwell Martin was on stage under the direction of Roger Michell in The Female of the Species at the Vaudeville Theater on the West End in London.
