Anchiale (daughter of Iapetos)

Anchiale (ancient Greek Ἀγχιάλη) is a heroine of Greek mythology.

She is the daughter of Titan Iapetus and founds the Cilician city anchiale named after her. It is also the mother of Kydnos, the river god of the river of Cilicia, and the grandmother of the Parthenios, according to whom the city of Tarsos Parthenia, situated at Kydnos, was named. Anchiale appears only in a fragment of the Stoic philosopher Athenodorus of Tarsus, in the other traditions the founder Anchiales is called the Assyrian king Sardanapal.
