African Revival for the Defense of Human Rights


The African Revival for the Defense of Human Rights (Rencontre Africaine pour la Defense de Droits de l'Homme) is a non-governmental organization created on 21 April 1990 in Dakar, , chaired in 2008 by Alioune Tine

The initiative came from a group of teachers and researchers at the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Senegal.

In its objectives it defines itself as defender of human rights in general, ensuring human dignity, peaceful coexistence and the defense of the rule of law. To achieve these goals, it works to disseminate the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights, legally assists victims of violations of their rights and carries out training and public mobilization.

It is organized in a Congress as a superior organ, which elects 5 of the 21 members of the Board of Directors (President, two Vice-Presidents, Secretary of International Relations and Secretary of Dynamization of National and Regional Observatories). The Observatories are mostly in Senegal, in addition to Mauritania and Guinea, plus one delegation in France and one in the United Nations.

Among its sponsors are the embassies in Senegal of Germany, the United States, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the European Union, as well as other organizations such as the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, Human Rights Watch and the International Organization of La Francophonie. / p>
