Tsikalario (Greek Τσικαλαριό) is a small plateau and the name of a population of 100 inhabitants on the Greek island of Naxos. Tsikalario and the southern post-bather village Chimarro (Χείμαρρο) today form the village of Zoodochos Pigi in the municipality Drymalia. Edit Necropolis source text

On the plateau a necropolis of the geometric time (about 1000-700 BC) was excavated (coordinates 37 ° 3 '52.4 "N, 25 ° 27'44.6" O37.06455555555625.462388888889313). This cemetery consisted of eighteen tumuli with a diameter of seven to twelve meters. Such hill graves are so far unique for the geometric period in Greece and the Cyclades. The hill graves were usually round and demarcated by stone settlements, two of them were rectangular. The burials under the hills were very different. Usually several of them were found within stones. The urns were usually found in these rocks, but sometimes the ashes were placed directly in a pit. There were also urns filled with sand.

In the middle of some hills lay also the burning places for the corpses, over which therefore only later a hill was erected. Into the pyre were some still rich, but mostly broken or burnt, such as jewelry, weapons, charred bones and ceramics. Two hills did not contain burials at all, and therefore seem to have been symbolic grave lands. Beside the hills one found sacrificial tables and also houses. It was apparently the dead thought.
