Pantenol

Panthenol - 81-13-0 - is the analogous alcohol of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) and therefore provitamin B5. In organisms, pantothenate is rapidly oxidized. Panthenol is a viscous liquid transparent at room temperature, but the salts of pantothenic acid (eg sodium pantothenate) are powders (typically white). It is soluble in water, ethanol and propylene glycol, soluble in diethyl ether and chloroform, and little soluble in glycerin.

Panthenol occurs in two enantiomers, D and L. Only D-panthenol (dexpanthenol) is biologically active, however both forms have moisturizing properties. For cosmetic purposes, panthenol comes as dextrogira or as a racemic mixture of D and L (DL-panthenol).

Su formulas: HO-CH2-C (CH3) 2-CH (OH) -CONH-CH2CH2CH2-OH.

D Panthenol preparations rarely produce allergies.
