John Tebbel


John William Tebbel (* 16. November 1912 in Boyne City, Charlevoix County, Michigan; † 10. Oktober 2004 in Durham, North Carolina) war ein US-amerikanischer Journalist und Medienhistoriker.

Tebbel grew up on a farm and started working as a local reporter for the Mount Pleasant Times in Michigan. In 1935 he took a bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University and a Master's degree from the Columbia Journalism School in 1937. After graduating, Tebbel was a reporter for the Detroit Free Press, editor of The Providence Journal, and Managing Editor of American Mercury. In 1943 he joined the editorship of the Sunday edition of the New York Times. He taught at the Columbia Journalism School as well as at New York University from 1949 to 1976.
