Icelandic Parliamentary Elections 1999


The parliamentary elections in Iceland in 1999 were held on 8 May of that year to elect the members of the Alþingi.

With 40.7% of the votes, the results were a clear victory for the Independence Party of then-Prime Minister Davíð Oddsson. These were the first elections to take place after changes in the Icelandic political landscape between 1998 and early 1999, with the merging of left-wing parties under the Social Democratic Alliance and the founding of the Left-Green Movement and the Party Liberal.

Of the 201,443 registered voters, 169,424 participated, about 84.1%. Of all votes, 3,697, or approximately 2.2%, were void. Results
