Lanova injection method


The Lanova injection process is a precursor of the current direct injection process. It is based on the Lanova air storage method for diesel engines and has been patented by Franz Lang. Edit the source code

The engine construction connects the outer cylinder in the cylinder head with a special shape of the combustion chamber. The combustion chamber, which is butterfly-shaped in the shape of a planer, led to a particularly favorable swirling during the blowing out of the air reservoir. As a result, the engine was still soot-free, even with a small air excess - which corresponds to a high load.

The last version of the Lanova method was not susceptible to interference and posed relatively low demands on the injection system. The fuel consumption was low, the running was remarkable. Henschel in Kassel used the Lanova process as well as a whole series of other licensees. In this context, it should be noted that even before the Second World War the development of an air-jet engine was operated with the Lanova method (executed as a nine-cylinder star motor); this project BMW 114, however, was not completed and discontinued in 1937.
