Grimoaldo IV de Benevento

Grimoaldo IV (murdered in 817), named Falco, was a Lombard Prince of Benevento from 806 until his death. It was thesaurarius (or stolesayz / stoleseyz), before becoming prince after the death of Grimoald III, above the own son of Grimoaldo, Ilderico, another stoleseyz.

In 812, he was forced to pay 25,000 solidi as a tribute to Charlemagne. In 814, he promised an annual tribute of 7,000 solidi to Ludovico Pio. These promises, however, were never fulfilled and his successor, Sico, gave the same false guarantees. The princes of Benevento were, in practice, independent until the end of the ninth century, they would not recognize the power of the Franks. Grimoaldo was assassinated in 817 by a plot of nobles who longed to usurp the throne. Sources Notes
