Omer Taverne


Omer Tavern (born July 22, 1904 in Waudrez, † October 10, 1981 in Dax) was a Belgian cyclist.

In 1922 and 1926, Omer Taverne won his home race Binche-Tournai-Binche as an amateur, only a few kilometers away from his birthplace. From 1927 to 1936 he was a professional, he was considered a sprinter. In 1924 he won Liège-Malmedy-Liège and became third in the same year at Brussels-Paris. Twice he started the Tour de France: in 1929, although he did not belong to any team that year, he won the third stage and became 21st overall, in 1930 he won the fourth stage. In 1930 he won the championship in Zurich.

After completing his cycling career, Taverne, whose parents were from France, opened a bicycle shop in Paris. Weblinks Edit sourcetext
