Elections of Baden-Württemberg of 1972

The state elections in Baden-Württemberg in 1972 were held on 23 April. Prime Minister Hans Filbinger and the CDU gained about nine percentage points and were able to win the absolute majority. The state SPD achieved its best result in its history, while the FDP / DVP suffered heavy losses. The NPD was removed from parliament. A majority government of the CDU with the new Prime Minister Filbinger broke the previous grand coalition between the CDU and the SPD. The results were:
