Light Assault Vehicle

The Light Strike Vehicle (LSV) is an improved version of the Desert Patrol Vehicle for which it is a replacement. There are a variety of assault vehicles, including the Chenowth version, one from Singapore Technologies Engineering and one from the UK (Longline LSV). Although conventional units of the United States Army replaced their VPDs with Humvees, special operations units adopted the VLA because of their high mobility and small size. Unlike the VPD, the VLA has been successfully marketed and exported as a lightweight vehicle.

The current generation of the model is the AVLA, with the prefix A of Advanced. It is currently used by the Marine Corps, Army and Navy of the United States, as well as by the armed forces of Greece, Mexico, Oman, Portugal and Spain. The UK retired its VLAs in the mid-1990s.
