Juan Bautista Company Soler


Juan Bautista Company Soler (Albaida (Valencia), 6 of April of 1699 -?) was a priest benefited of the cathedral of Valencia to which Vicente Ximeno attributed the Castilian translation of the Science for the people of court, sword, and toga of François de La Mothe Le Vayer.

Biography

After studying philosophy and theology at the University of Valencia, he graduated as a doctor according to Jimeno in Gandía and then studied Hebrew, canons and laws graduating in both degrees at the University of Avila.

Created apostolic protonotary by the papal nuncio in Spain, in 1747 he was received by counsel of the Royal Councils. Work Jimeno attributed the translation of the French to the Spanish of Science for the persons of cut, sword, and toga, work of François de La Mothe Le Vayer, published in Valencia in 1729, in 6 volumes in 4º, and reprinted in 1736, illustrating it and adding it with several treaty, with dedication to Fernando VI of Spain, being prince of Asturias. The work had already been translated into Spanish with the title School of Princes and Knights by the Dominican Alonso Manrique, who had edited it in Palermo in 1688. The Valencian translation, signed with the initials JBCS, has also been attributed to José Berni and Catalá.

In the volume I of the newest "Expurgatory of the Spanish Inquisition", from 1747, many places of the first 5 volumes of this work are noted, which were sent to expurgate. Bibliography
