Equetla (Latin Echetla) was a fortress town of Sicily on the border of the territory of Syracuse. In 309 a. C., absent Agatocles (who was in Africa) was occupied by a corps of soldiers in the service of the siracusanos, from where they sacked Leontinos and Camarina, but they were defeated by Jenódico of Agrigento, that assured them the freedom. In the first Punic war it was besieged by the Romans. Its later fate is not known.

It is probably the present Occhiolà, a city that was not depopulated until 1693 when an earthquake made the inhabitants march and founded Grammichele.
