Riopudio

The Riopudio as it passes through Almensilla.

The Riopudio is a tributary of the river Guadalquivir that runs through the Aljarafe region. River channel and characteristics of its basin

This river crosses the region of Aljarafe from north to south with a length of about 22 km from its birth in Olivares (in the area of Heliche) to Coria del Río, where it ends its course in the Guadalquivir. The Riopudio passes through the municipalities of Olivares, Salteras, Espartinas, Bormujos, Bollullos de la Mitación, Almensilla, Palomares del Río and, finally, Coria del Río.

It is small but large. Its basin includes some tributaries: Sequillo, Valencinilla, Bormujos and Ugena or Smooth.

Of the several bridges that crosses the oldest corresponds to the line of Triana-Villamanrique (between Bollullos de la Mitación and Mairena del Aljarafe) known in the area as the "Roman Bridge".

Precisely, for a long stretch parallel to the Riopudio riverbed, the royal canyon of Las Islas, an important route formerly used by transhumant cattle, is used to communicate the summer pastures of the Plateau with those of winter in Isla Mayor, in the marshes of the Guadalquivir. This gorge enters through the pit between Salteras and Valencina de la Concepción, running continuously less than 100-200 meters from the Riopudio, until separating from it in Coria to go through the pine forests of Puebla del Río and Aznalcázar to Isla Mayor.

In the margins of Riopudio agriculture predominates (especially for the olive grove). It also has an ecological role. Its banks have poplars, eucalyptus, reeds and other trees and shrubs. There are rural roads to visit this bank.
