Periodontal ligament is a component of the periodontium, and is the set of collagen, elastic and oxytalanic fibers, which, through a kind of vasculonerviosa, attach the teeth to the alveolar bone of the jaws. It holds the tooth inside the gum as it forms part of the insertion periodontium. The root cementum and the alveolar bone, also functions of sensibility, nutrition, mechanics and cellular remodeling.
