Church of Jokkmokk

Church of Jokkmokk

The church of Jokkmokk was built between 1887/88 according to the plans of the architect Ernst Abraham Jacobsson in Jokkmokk, Sweden.

The church is an excellent example of the 19th century wood architecture. The building is square in its floor plan, with a tower rising in one corner, while two further corners of entrances with porch are taken. In the fourth corner is the sacristy. Between these corner rooms there are galleries on three sides, while the fourth side forms the choir with the altar. The church space makes an open and tent-like impression, pointing to the predominantly Sami population of the area during the construction period. Weblinks Edit sourcetext
