The National Prize of Sciences and Arts was inaugurated in Mexico in 1945 by the Presidency of the Republic, with the intention of promoting the cultural, scientific and technological development of the country. In 2011 it was announced that Daniel Sada was awarded the prize in Linguistics and Literature. Sada could not be notified, as he was sedated at the time of the announcement, and died hours later, as a result of kidney failure.
