Annemans studied law at the University of Antwerp. In December 2012, he became the successor of Bruno Valkenier's party chairman of Vlaams Belang. He was followed in 2014 as a party chairman, Tom Van Grieken. Annemans has been a member of the European Parliament since 2014. He is married and has three children.
