Presidential elections of Peru of 1858

The presidential elections of Peru of 1858 were given shortly after the Peruvian Civil War of 1856-1885. Although the revolt of Vivanco failed its intention was to end the influence of the liberals in the decisions of government.

Castilla chose to call elections for an Extraordinary Congress and for the election of the Constitutional President, since he was only provisional President. He presented himself as a candidate, and the Liberals launched General José Miguel Medina. After the elections, Castile triumphed.
