Ponga River

The Ponga River is a short mountain river in the north of Spain that runs through the eastern part of the Principality of Asturias, a tributary of the Sella River.

Its name, coinciding with that of the council through which it flows, comes from Xosé Lluis García Arias from the non-Celtic Indo-European root * PONK «mud, marsh».

Born in the source of the Salguerosa, port of Ventaniella, in the council of Ponga. In its descent by the marsh of Ventaniella, Jump of the Thief, Faeda, Sobrefoz, Mestas and Sellaño, it collects numerous affluents of short caudal, like the Moro Valley in Sellaño.

From here enter the council of Amieva, to form a rock after the old dam and end at the river Sella.
