Antechamber (nautical)

Antechamber is the first part of the commander's chamber in ships, frigates and corvettes. Some also call the antechamber the space in frigates and corvettes from the bulkhead of the officers' chamber to the main pole; where the hatch of the pantry is located, the scale that serves to lower from the battery to the officers' chamber and generally the pastry of the marine guards and where they give the door of the chamber of these and those of the boxes of some senior officers: this is generally considered as part of the accommodation of the sea guards.

In the brigs, the antechamber is the space that is closed with bulkheads between the officers' chamber and the commander's where he goes down from the deck, the scale that serves both.

On merchant ships, intended for passengers, the space between the bulkhead of the main chamber and the scale leading to it.
