Palacio Magnani


Late Renaissance facade of the palace.

The Palazzo Magnani is located in Bologna, Italy, and was built by the noble family of the same name.

The works began in 1577 under the direction of the architect Domenico Tibaldi; to its death in 1583 was happened by Floriano Ambrosini. In 1797 the palace became the property of the Guidotti family. At the end of the XIX was sold to the Malvezzi Campeggi whose coat of arms still can be seen in the facade. Later the Palace was residence of the family Salem, and at present belongs to the Bank Unicredit. Among the works of art that it houses, the gallery with frescoes of the Histories of the Foundation of Rome, painted in 1590 by the brothers Ludovico, Annibale and Agostino Carracci in the hall of the noble plant stands out. It is also worth mentioning Ambrosini's monumental chimney, decorated with statues of Minerva and Mars by Gabriele Fiorini, and the Lupercalia by Annibale Carracci. In the inner courtyard there is a Hercules whose face is that of Lorenzo Magnani, who commissioned the frieze of the Carracci.
