Mambisas Prefectures


The prefectures mambisas were the organizations of rear that guaranteed great amount of resources for the fight in the wars developed in Cuba 1868-1878 and 1895-1898. Structure

The prefectures were organized well away to avoid their attack by the Spanish forces and in turn close enough to make it easy to supply the troops they fought. Within all the tasks that they developed were the ones of repairs of all type, be it of footwear, mounts, machetes and rifles. They also carried out an arduous task in the search and collection of food for the mambisas troops. They were also responsible for the military courier and the surveillance of the coast. In addition to the central prefectures; these could have sub-prefectures in order to facilitate the work.
