Cajista (also called typographer or simply typographer) is a press officer whose job was to compose the molds to be printed.

The office of cajist goes back to the beginning of the printing press. The writers, as sermon transcribers, could work in festive, something not reserved to the printers. The schemers were always considered educated, because they required a good grammatical and technical formation. Some prominent politicians and trade unionists, such as the Spanish Pablo Iglesias, were trained in the workshops of printing houses.

This profession evolved over time, as did typographical techniques. The earliest writers were basically composing lines of text for newspapers and books. Subsequently they specialized in the reparender, which consisted in carrying out works of complex composition (ie, commercial and fantasy works). Finally, its main function was as adjuster or sorter.
