Wilhelm, from Gent, studied the rights and led Flemish embassies to the court of the English King Richard II in 1382 and 1383. In 1385 he was appointed Bishop of Tournai and consecrated on July 9th, 1385 in Hadham near London. He only succeeded in asserting himself in the Ghent region, and in 1390 he was expelled from there. In 1391, Pope Boniface IX. from his office and appointed him 1393 to the Bishop of Basel. The Basler cathedral chapter did not recognize the appointment and in August 1391 chose the Basler Dompropst Konrad Münch of Landskron. Wilhelm, who never entered his bishopric, was again appointed Bishop of Tournai in 1399 after negotiations between the Pope and the City of Basel. Since a return to his Flemish bishopric was not possible, he worked as an auxiliary bishop in London. He passed away no later than 1406. Edit source text
